‘And so it begins…’

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Ah, I do love ‘Lord of the Rings’. When you think about that story and then your own life, somehow it makes everything more action-filled and just plain cool. ‘And so begins my third week in school and Middle Earth is in desperate peril…’ See? Just makes it sound so dang important! I don’t think that’s actually a line out of either the movie or the book, but still…

Anyway, it’s been a rough start to the week and it seems like every time I say, “Well, at least it has to get better now” something even worse decides to hit. And yet, I keep saying it. Either I’m shooting myself in the foot, or, as my teacher ordered me to be, I’m an incredible optimist. Sometimes, you can’t tell the two things apart.

One way or the other, I’m still excited for this semester, I really am. My classes are looking better and better as I go on (I think I might actually have a chance at this singing thing :P ) and I love weight training! As sore as I am after a solid exercise (yeah, I’ll admit I get sore… really sore…) it’s awesome just feeling a bit healthier. Besides that I’m gonna get a huge dose of Biology this semester… fortunately, my favorite subject. The process of getting enrolled at my transfer college, Wheaton, is going smoothly and Iowa Western has been right alongside me. It’s great!

So, unfortunately things aren’t ideal, but I’m thankful things are still going well and I’ll keep you posted.

As always, not my pic, someone else’s, here’s their sight:

Another Monday?!? Where do these all come from?

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Well, yeah, monday is here again. Good, because one of my favorite classes, applied voice, is today, bad because… well it’s a Monday. Mondays are just this sort of unsightly blemish on the face of the wonderful new week and they shan’t be tolerated!

At any rate today is Martin Luther King day, which means get out and volunteer! Great day especially for activities planned indoors considering the cheery weather outside ;) I dunno but it was warm yesterday and now it’s downright frigid yet again. It’s utterly divine. This is, of course, sarcasm.

I’m not the only one though, I know, who is glad to have the first week of classes over with. Going over syllabus after syllabus and getting used to the new routine is such a hassle! It’s exciting, but horrible at the same time. But now it’s over with and we get to begin another great semester :D Hmm… this smiley looks way too cheery…

Now spring semester can be one of two things:

A. excruciatingly long and a complete drag

-or-

B. Quick, fun, painless

Just because it’s diving headlong into summer does Spring semester tend to lean towards choice A but not this year, baby! This just happens to be the last semester I have here at good ‘ol IWCC and I plan for it to be spectacular. So now that the first week is over, I think have a pretty decent chance of that. For now, enjoy your day, all the sunshine (huh??), and buckle in for another awesome spring!

Guaranteed!

Well, this semester has started out… interestingly. First I accidentily dropped a class and was waitlisted and barely made it back in (unfortunately just as I was getting comfortable with sleeping in). Then I found an extra fee I had to pay for a biology course. After that my semester officially started; I got about five hours of sleep last night, woke up, got ready and my car wouldn’t start. Still made it. After class I logged on here to moderate comments, write a blog, etc. and I had over six thousand comments… almost all spam… so I’m still in the tedious process of moderating though all. I suppose that’s the price we pay for taking a real break over christmas break. But on the bright side, things have been slightly cruddy so something good has to happen right? I wish.

See, life should come with a guarantee: To repay you in good stuff for as much as the bad stuff or your money back. But it doesn’t work that way and sometimes we just have to make do with what we have.

I mean… I did still have a method of transportation to get me to school. I did make it back into my class after I made that mistake. The extra fee that popped up is not much and it’s easily payable and it’s because I’m taking a course I really wanted. All the comments will eventually have an end, even if I don’t like moderating them. And on top of that my writing is going great; I got accepted and am going to the college I really wanted next fall; I have a steady job so I can buy a new car; I have a boyfriend who doesn’t care when I’m grumpy and lets me call him Neko (I mean, come on, that’s amazing); I got teachers I like and classes I wanted and this is shaping up to be a great semester! Maybe it won’t go all according to plan but, eh, what does? The best we can do it to do what we can with what we have and no one can ask more of us than that.

I look forward to sharing the semester with you here in the halls of Iowa Western Community College. Good luck starting classes and getting settled in this week!
