Earthgrazers and Fall 2009.

It seems like only yesterday was it the beginning of summer vacation.  Now it is nearing the end, bringing dismay to me and every other student, I am sure.  I just registered for a few classes, but have been waitlisted for my other ones.  I suppose that is the rotten part of waiting until the last minute to sign up.  My own fault, I guess.  However, I am not too worried.  Something will work out, whatever it is.
The summer has been busy and eventful, I am pleased to report.  I worked a lot, played a lot, and did nothing a lot.  It has been refreshing.  I went to a couple amusement parks this week and still feel nauseous.  I can walk in a straight line today, though, so that is good.  Makes getting places a little easier.  I have a few more trips planned in the next two weeks before classes resume.  I will be hitting up the Iowa State Fair at some point and I also want to get out of town for a night sometime before summer is over.  I am not sure where I will be going, but I am sure it will be somewhere great.
Another thing I am looking forward to this summer is the 2009 Perseid meteor shower.  It will be peaking on the evening of August 11th into the morning of the 12th.  Look northeast around 9-11 PM to catch the most.  NASA is saying there will be dozens around that time.  There’s going to be a pretty big Moon that night, so look early before the Moon washes too much out with its light.  The Perseids are known for having “earthgrazers.”  The meteors that are long and slow and colorful that skip across Earth’s atmosphere like a skipping rock.  They are really neat, so keep an eye out.

Check out NASA’s post about it at: http://www.science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/31jul_perseids2009.htm?list1031298.
