Academic Honesty & Integrity

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

So, you all are use to my upbeat and postive posts by now…and are probably wondering, is there anything in this world that gets under your skin? Yes… Thank you for asking. There is.

Today you will listen to me on academic honesty and integrity and the price tag that follows. Current price tag $150.

In one of my courses, there was a text book shortage. Yes, that is right. The bookstore ran out of textbooks so a lot of students were having a hard time catching up. We all know by now, that I am a bit naive, and so, when a student seemed to be having trouble in the course without a book, I loaned her mine (I was caught up to chapter 3). I did not know her, never seen her before, and don’t know anybody who would know her.

Then, after loaning it to her, 4 class periods passed by and I was without a book and she was missing in action. I told everybody who would listen to my story, and they all said, “Yeah you won’t be getting that back”.

I sent out an email to her, asking for my book and still no response. I finally broke down and asked my fiance if I could borrow some money so that I can buy a new book. I was ready to talk to the teacher, to see if I can get an extenstion on the next homework, and looked down at my phone.

1 new voicemail. It was her. She had my beloved textbook, and was trying to find my information.

I tried to be the nice girl, and just shen I hit panic, she was just as kind and returned it. Whew.

There ya go kids, sometimes, it just takes a little kindess for academic honesty and integrity to truly have a purpose!

Start of Week 2

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

Well well well…good to know you are all still enjoying the college experience.

Saturday night, I went to bed promptly at 8 pm and did not wake up until Sunday (today) at 2 p.m. Definately a bit behind on my sleep from this past week, however, optimistic on the week coming up.

Here are the classes I am taking, so if you’re in them, just introduce yourself. Macroeconomics, Introduction to Marketing, Elementary Algebra 2, Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Biology, and Speech. I am really looking forward to econ, marketing, and speech. The other ones I am not so sure on. They are not my strong points.

Total Restaurant Rave: The Old River Pizza restaurant. It is located across the street from Menards on the Lake Manawa exit. My fiance and I went there for a late lunch today armed with books to study (he goes to Buena Vista). The food was excellent and well priced. In fact, they even offer my all time favorite meal choice (a weekday buffet)!

I am really stoked also about the fact that the snow is melting- true it is not as pretty now, but this means I can walk outside without falling down! That makes me look forward to my first week of giving tours as an Iowa Western Admissions Ambassador! YAY!

See you all in week 2.

Well…Yay for First Days

How was everybody’s first day?

I just so happen to be taking 6 classes this time around, which means that I am one busy girl. A lot of them are entirely new to me, and I am getting a bit nervous about all the extra homework. For those of you keeping tabs on my blogs, remember last post when I mentioned my gym bunniness in hopes that a day I was not motivated, somebody would push me?

It happened.
I had macroeconomics, philosophy, algebra, and marketing today. Then I worked for a bit, and went home eager to start studying, not so eager to work out. And then…I got a text… Hey- did you really workout that much? Basically a guilt trip to say get off the couch, put down my latte, and hit the gym! Yay!

So that is where I will be at, reading marketing from the elliptical machine.

It is good to be back though, all honesty. I was getting so bored. I even told some people that the amount of videos I rented at Blockbuster, the guy said, “You might as well work here!” It was too weird having all of that free time.

Sorry for you who wished it would of lasted longer… Enjoy Spring term 2009- GOODLUCK!

Wow…That Went Quick

Hello dedicated Winter Blog Reader,

I am absolutely amazed how quickly this break has gone. The first two weeks I went to visit the future in-laws, and then told my self how much time was left to do all of the other important things needed before school starts up. (I still haven’t had the time to paint my nails!)

I have been quite the gym bunny though. That impressed me. In early October I transformed my REIVER calendar book into a gym book, which I record every single workout. My resolution for the year is to work out 5 times every single week at a high intensity. I am telling you all this, so hopefully on a day when I just can’t stay motivated enough to go, one of you will come up to me and say, “How’s that gym goal going?”

Well kids, time to enjoy that last good final stress free week before school starts up again.
