Stuff You!

Friday, November 28th, 2008

So big question of the day? How many of you woke up Thursday morning to realize that the entire gene pool was in your house? I did. I drove out to my parents Wednesday night for some pizza and wii. (My brother just bought it and we all had to turn an innocent game into a 5 hour competition.)

Background on my family… There are 3 of us (dad, brother, and I) 4 if you count my fiance, that are 100% type A personalities. In fact, we are ruthless, unempathetic, uncompassionate, aggressive people. So one lil game can be turned into something that should be featured on Reality Tv. We all love each other, but when the competition starts, it is fierce. At one point, my brother even threw a tennis ball at my fiance while boxing to throw him off balance and loose the game. We have no boundaries we won’t cross. My fiance retaliated by tripping my brother during tennis game (yes..evil) but that’s how he won the game!

My mom however is about as kind and compassionate as humans can be. How we were all bred to be man eaters and she teaches Sunday school is beyond me. So, while we shouted vulgarities during Wii Sports, she brought us little veggie trays and cakes and pizzas.

I spent Wednesday night at their house. Thursday, I woke up and really realized that family is the only thing in the world one should be thankful for. I am doing my comp paper on The Great Gatsby (If any of you have ideas let me know) and I am going off of how corrupt the characters become as they chase the American dream, my conclusion was that no matter what they all gained materialistically, they all wanted family or love in the end.

Fitting novel for life right now.

All of us type A personalities tripping each other and shouting vulgarities to win Wii, all of us going to work or school and taking out the competition to climb to the top (not a bad trait), all of us constantly in motion to pursue that ever elusive dream. And you know what? When it came time to sit around the table and say what we were thankful of, we all said, “Family”. It wasn’t the expensive Wii game, it wasn’t that there was so much food I am now a size 8, it wasn’t the big house mommy and daddy moved into… it wasn’t our pool, it wasn’t my ring…It was that Thursday morning I woke up with my best friends. All four of them. (Mom, dad, brother, and Fiance).

I want all of you to try something new this week… If your a type A personality like me, calm down just for an ounce of time and tell somebody that they made a difference in your life. If your a type b, stay your beautiful self.

Boredom Leads to Tasty Discovery

I was bored a few days ago.  Really bored.  Excruciatingly bored.  My fiance and I were waiting until 12:30 to go to the computer lab so we could both simultaneously work on projects for our classes while I took a quiz on SAIL.  We were hungry…we were bored.

He transferred to BVU after some schooling at Iowa State.  I came here from Dmacc.  He hasn’t had college cafeteria food for about 2 years.  I haven’t for about 21 years.

So, on a dare, literally a, “I dare you to eat school food,” we wound up in the cafeteria.  Looking at all of the choices and deciding, we might as well try to enjoy it.

He ordered the buffet. And then the feasting began. What a tasty cafeteria. We loaded our plates with the eagerness of cattle by the traugh. I had salad and mac n cheese. He had 6 pizza slices, 2 bowls of mac n cheese, 4 rice krispies, 1 m&m cookie, 2 chocolate chip cookies, and 4 packages of keebler crackers.

Needless to say, I am glad we found the cafeteria. It was so cheap and better than I can even cook. In fact, we go out to eat once a week, and our new meals out will be at the Iowa Western Cafeteria.

Yay for boredom!

Reporting Live from Iowa City 2

It seems like every late October, I wind up here.  Maybe it is the changing of weather, maybe it is trying to avoid Halloween.  I always seem to make it out one day after my birthday too.

This year, because my family and friends are 6 hours away, I haven’t had any visitors.  The nurses that I grew up with are the best friends a girl can have.  I’m not even their patient- it’s a mutual friendship.  So imagine how excited I was, when after a week they showed up with jeans and a jacket and kidnapped me so that I could enjoy holidays!  We went downtown Iowa City to observe the Halloween festivities and I absolutely loved it! Staff <—- Click on that to see a lovely pic!

The Election At The Hospital:

So about 4 of my closest nurses and I sided with McCain.  Everyone else Obama.  We all know who won- but at 10:30 pm, my room was packed with screaming politics talk and cheers.  I think the 7 of us pounded through 4 bags of potatoe chips, and gummy bears.  Although my chosen candidate did not win, I am still proud to be an American.

And I’m Proud to Be An American

Wii want to play!

So, as I am naturally competitive, we would up having Wii competitions just that at least one thing last night went my way.  Yes, I won boxing, bowling, and even tennis.  I have never played before, but what a nifty little gadget.  Might have to get one.

Academic success:

So, I was getting worried because I still was not able to get ahold on one particular teacher.  In fact, I was so stressed out (because I’ m a nerd) that I finally emailed her the same questions yet again.  Initially, I emailed the wrong person.  Yeah…Good Job.   Go figure, again Iowa Western pulls through for me.
